Since leaving teaching in July 2000 Carl has worked full-time as a storyteller visiting many schools and telling to all age ranges. He has also run storytelling workshops for both children and adults and contributed to a number of courses for teachers run by Essex Schools Advisory Service. He has told as part of The Essex Book Festival both as a solo artist and with Essex Storytellers as well as at five East Anglian Storytelling Festivals.
When not telling in schools Carl can be seen in country parks, village and town events, community groups and libraries. He has told stories as part of The Essex Book Festival and at such varied events as the The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Hull Freedom Festival, Colchester Festival, the Seafood Festival at Mersea Island, Rowhedge Regatta, English Wine Weekend, Halloween Storywalks, Education Outreach and Summer Literacy workshops.
Carl has contributed to courses run by the Essex Schools Advisory Service on a number of occasions, working with both teachers and parents. The joy and inspiration he got as a child, and still gets to this day, from stories has strengthened his belief in their power not just to entertain, but also to help us understand others and ourselves.
Carl has been a member of The Society for Storytelling since its inception, and is a founder member of The Essex Storytellers with whom he has performed all over East Anglia
Since 2000 Essex Storytellers have put together storytelling projects based around Essex locations and local history. “The Battle of Maldon”, “Scratching The Surface” and more recently “A GreenMist Rising”, which was based on the Essex witch trials of 1645 are just three of the projects in which Carl has been involved.
As an Equity member, Carl has full public liability insurance for performances. He also has an enhanced DBS certificate. Carl is a past director of The Society for Storytelling.

Carl is an experienced storyteller and teacher with a repertoire of tales from many cultures who has performed at schools for over ten years. He is also in demand for tellings to community groups,museums, country parks, fetes, fairs, festivals and medieval events.
